Part two!!

part 2!
as I was saying we woke up at 7:00 Am to set net, we left it in for 5 and a half hours and after we put the net into the water we went back up to the cabin and continued to cut enacaga ( dry fish ) three hours passed and we just finished cutting up the fish and hanging them on poles and racks, after we were done hanging them we sat down and relaxed after 3 hours of working hard to cut fish. two hours passed and we went and checked the net down in our fishing hole in Tahltan and ended up down there for another 2 hours of working on fish!! but either way I still enjoyed family time. after we were done pulling net we ended up with over 20 salmon fish in the net. so we left the fishing hole and went up to our cabin and hung the fish in our fish house, on Nails we use for hooks to hang the fish on. after that we all went and had a family dinner at my great grandmas cabin for my grandpas 56th birthday,  we all had cake and spent the evening with my grandpa telling old stories and talking about life!!

story about King Salmon

here's a story about the King Salmon.
well, last summer we set our net down in our fishing hole one day, after we were done setting it we went up to our cabin to start cutting enacoga in our language it is used as another word for dry fish. any way, we started cutting enacoga, maybe 30 minutes we finished cutting 20 fish and my grandpa told us to pack up our fishing stuff because we had to rush down to our fishing hole to check our net! so we gathered everything up and got into the back of his pick up truck and rushed down there. so maybe 10 minuets of driving we finally arrived and got to the fishing hole and we looked down at our net and it was underneath the water the bobbers and everything!. my grandpa yelled!! "You kids! were going to be down here a while!! look at the net!!" so we jumped out of the truck and got down to the net and started pulling it out, we seen 7 King Salmon's and 19 salmon. all together our net held 26 fish! and non were able to get away, so we stayed down there for maybe 3 hours gutting & washing. after we were done my grandpa was so happy to be done and to go to our cabin an eat dinner. we were exhausted after that big pull we ended up sleeping at 9:00 pm. the next morning we woke up at 7:00 Am and set the net again.  (stay tuned for PART 2, for this story)

i love fishing in the north

hello, im back for another story about fishing in the north!

well 4 years ago when I was in tahltan, when my grandma was alive we went and set a net like a cabin sized net to catch some fish, we caught a fush called a "Humpie" it has a big lump on its back, so we threw the fish back into the Stikine river and after we threw it back into the river somebody stopped by our fishing hole and told us that the Tahltan fisheries department were buying the fish "Humpie's" from people, to dissect on them to find out why their backs were so big.. we've never ever found out why they were ever so big.. till this day my grandpa often wonders what types of guts and things they've got in them.. soo that's my story for today. ill write another one on Monday bye for now :)

summer at fish camp!

well..
im back and ready to write about summer in tahltan and how we fish in the summer.
so.. in the summer people come here to the tahltan nation from where ever they live.. just to camp for the summer. yes im the one of those people, and we camp for almost the whole summer! first we fix up fishing net, and then we clean up the camping ground id like to call our cabin. since I was little, me and almost my whole family would go to "fish camp" and just stay there and go fishing and stock up on fish for the winter! and once we'd have enough fish from fish camp.. we'd travel home and after 2 hours of traveling, we'd finally reach our destination.
